This summer, beach layouts of all types were studied to optimize space due to COVID-19 restrictions. Naturally, as is usual in Italy, almost everywhere we proceeded as if nothing had happened, leaving the layouts with the usual spaces.
ROBERTO ROSSI DESIGN has nevertheless found smart, practical, and simple solutions to beach layout issues.
Using 3D software such as Rhinoceros and Grasshopper (parametric plugin), they attempted to speed up the beach layout preparation phase by parameterizing the various inputs or measurements needed to establish an area designated for umbrellas, taking into account all the new COVID-19 distancing regulations.
Creating layouts with various possible solutions: rows staggered by spaces, columns staggered by spaces, a square matrix, a triangular matrix, changing COVID-19 safety measures from time to time and moving the loungers to the maximum distance from the umbrella.
All this in just a few clicks, just like in a parametric Excel spreadsheet, and the final result is created, without scribbling on countless sheets of paper or drawing lines and planting pegs all over the beach.

Once the final design is created on the computer and printed, you go to the beach and start tracing, confident you have the best possible solution for the available space.

The video also features beach products designed and manufactured in Italy by Roberto Rossi. These products are designed to solve functional problems, such as providing space for refreshments under the umbrella, with the practical Happy Hour on the Beach® tray tables that increase the dining space under the umbrella with ease and creativity: the tray can be inserted and removed from the umbrella even when it's already set. It can be plain without holes or with holes for glasses, carafes, bottles, ice buckets, and many other table accessories to be safely carried to the umbrella.

Other innovative products include the Easy Shower® series of automatic showers and foot washers...? Energy-saving, cordless, with cold or hot water from the mains, and solar-powered with an integrated solar thermal panel.
These products are especially hygienic because their automatic mechanical device, which always works even on sand, salty environments, or chlorine, allows for hands-free use... just step on and off the automatic platforms to turn the water on or off! Simple, right? And hygienic... pathogen-resistant!
All models are modular and can be installed simply over the existing water collection basin at all beach resorts... all you need is an external hose or a garden hose to operate them.
Installed with a flush-to-floor platform, they can also be used comfortably by disabled people with wheelchairs, and the purchase and installation costs can be financed with funding for the removal of architectural barriers.

Another issue related to the new beach layouts, according to ROBERTO ROSSI DESIGN, concerns the shade of the umbrellas, which at a certain time becomes unmanageable within each "forced" delimited area, excessively distancing the shade from the umbrella area. Therefore, to be able to enjoy this even at certain late afternoon times, such as from 6:00 PM, when it's time for aperitifs or dinner (if also served by catering), it is possible to have pleasant shade in the center of the umbrella, perhaps equipped with the Happy Hour on the Beach® tray-table, of which it is a related accessory, keeping drinks and food at the right temperature and without suffering from heat more than necessary for refreshment.
The idea is very simple, accessible to everyone, without having to completely overhaul the layout of a traditional beach umbrella or install any kind of canopy or other costly obstacles. ROBERTO ROSSI DESIGN has designed the PARASOL-110, a canopy similar to those of the 1950s. It's practical, quick to install on any type of beach umbrella, and can be rolled up inside the umbrella, preventing any problems when closing the umbrella.
